 KIDVID CINEMA

Welcome to KidVid Cinema! Today we would like to introduce you to our friend, Seth.  When Seth got sick, he was powerless to run, jump, and play. He had to trust in Jesus’ power to get him through a hard time. As you watch today’s video, look for the different ways Seth was powerless and how Jesus rescues him.

[OPTIONAL]
Go Deeper:
  1. What made Seth powerless?
  2. Where did Seth’s parents take him to get help?
  3. What did Seth love to do?
  4. Who visited Seth while he was in the hospital?
  5. Did Seth ever get better?

STEP 4

 SCRIPTURE VERSE + LESSON

Today we’re in the city of Jerusalem. Our story takes place after Jesus was raised from the dead and after he returned to heaven. That same power that raised Jesus from the dead was given to his disciples. And we receive that same power when we believe in Jesus! Isn’t that incredible?

This story comes from the book of Acts, chapter 3. Two of Jesus’ disciples, Peter and John, were headed toward the Temple one afternoon to go to the three o’clock prayer service. As they got closer to the Temple, they saw a man, crippled since birth, being carried in. Each day he sat near the Temple gate, begging for money.

Remember, Peter and John had been two of Jesus’ best friends. In fact, it was Peter who slashed the slave’s ear in the garden when Jesus was arrested—remember that? Peter and John had both seen and talked to Jesus after he came back to life, before he went to heaven. And now they spent all their time telling everyone about Jesus.

So they were about to pass the crippled beggar, but they stopped when he asked them for money. Peter and John looked at the beggar intently. Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.

Peter spoke to the crippled man. “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!

Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. The man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened! The beggar jumped up and began to walk. Then he began leaping and praising God!

Wow! Incredible! Peter healed a man who had been crippled since birth! But that’s impossible! How could he do something so impossible?

STEP 5

 LESSON SONG

When you watch birds fly, it doesn’t look like they have a lot of worries. Let’s sing a song called “Won’t Worry ’Bout a Thing” that lets us fly free of worries!

STEP 6

 PRINTABLE ACTIVITY

Moe reminds us that, “When you’re powerless…Jesus rescues!” Click on the link below for a printable version of this coloring sheet.

STEP 7

 CLOSING THEME SONG

This song will remind you that Jesus rescues us when life is a wreck! In fact, Jesus uses His power to protect us and keep us safe from harm.  He even gives us a way out when we are tempted to do something that we know is wrong.  God truly is good and mighty!

STEP 8

 CLOSING PRAYER

[OPTIONAL]
Go Deeper:
Encourage each member of your family to pray.  This could be something that praises God for who He is, it could be a confession of sin, it could be something worth being thankful for, and/or it could be a request to God.
Dear God,

We often think we have unlimited power to do whatever we want.  But the truth is, we only have the power that You give to us.  Thank You for all that You help us do on a daily basis.  We also thank You for using Your strength to save us from our sins.  You rescued us and others with Your sacrifice on the cross.  We love You Jesus and look forward to what tomorrow’s truth will teach us.  Give us great rest tonight so we can enjoy what You have in store for us the next day.

In Your powerful name we pray,
Amen!
